The Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD) has released a new explainer, “Understanding Europe’s Digital and Competition Laws: Fair, Open and Pro‑Innovation,” outlining how recent EU and UK rules are reshaping digital markets to work better for consumers and innovators. The publication highlights how measures such as the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), the Digital Services Act (DSA), and the UK Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCCA) tackle the market power of large online platforms, address unfair practices, and strengthen consumer safety and trust online.

The explainer sets out why concentrated power in digital markets harms consumer choice, privacy, and innovation, and shows how new rules open up markets, foster competition, and support startups and SMEs. It also stresses that these laws are non-discriminatory and apply to companies from all regions, promoting fairer, more transparent digital ecosystems across borders.
